President Biden Offers Condolences to Haiti

Haitian ambassador requests security support from the U.S. after the assassination of their president.

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden released a statement regarding the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise. The U.S. president said, “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the horrific assassination of President Jovenel Moïse and the attack on First Lady Martine Moïse of Haiti. We condemn this heinous act, and I am sending my sincere wishes for First Lady Moïse’s recovery. The United States offers condolences to the people of Haiti, and we stand ready to assist as we continue to work for a safe and secure Haiti.”

The details about the motive of the murder have not yet come to light. Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph promised the people of Haiti that “Democracy and the republic will win.” He also expressed that the nation’s security is “under the control of the National Police of Haiti and the Armed Forces of Haiti.” Haiti’s ambassador to the U.S. has also requested that the U.S. and other allied nations support the Haitian armed forces in the coming days.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For peace and political stability in Haiti.
  • For the president to seek God’s guidance as his administration considers ways to support Haiti.
  • That the State Department would have open lines of communication with Haitian officials.
